Extremely rare Painted Venetian carnival mask, 18th or early 19th century. Designed to be hand held. A rare and surprising carved wood mask crowns the wearer with a shell like device and central cabochon. Ribbon work outlines the eyes and face above a hand hold in rocaille design with a central cabochon. All painted gold with black over gesso on carved wood. Gilt verso in dull ochre paint.

Worth having a costume ball for, this rare Italian gem will leave the other party goers feeling ill prepared. Make your fame and use it also for more intimate events. Restored.
