An amazing early immigrant trunk with what I believe is Telemark type rosemaling at front, top, and sides, dated 1838. The decoration on both chests was created at the peak of this art. This chest displays delicate floral decoration in greens, pinks and white playing against a soft blue-gray ground in the Scandinavian tradition. Constructed of sturdy Baltic pine and reinforced with blacksmith made wrought iron fittings. The lock is still intact and has a working key.

Height 24 inches, width 37 inches, depth 21 inches.
