Venetian cabinet side view

A lucky house call in a distinguished neighborhood in Saint Paul led me to this dramatic antique Venetian painted cabinet . Fully decorated in the Rococo Venetian manner , a gilded cartouche mounts the bonnet top above conforming doors. The interior is papered with a fine geometric design of matching tones. In two sections, the lower cabinet flares out and displays paneled floral decor. A central slide may hold objects when they are being removed or for candlelight . The lower case conforms throughout with serpentine curves to the sides and front conforming to an apron bound by flowing tendrils. The cabriole legs are mounted with gilt scrolls . In two sections. The very typical “Venetian green” case is fully decorated with panels of highly detailed floral bouquets in molded gilt surrounds . This is of the 18th century Italian style but of 19th century age. Restored.

A wonderful central drama piece for a room with Continental decoration, $1985.
