This Italian Calamander wood secretary desk is a most usual, small scale, 18th century piece. The mirrored case above has shelves for books as well as pigeonhole compartments. The lower slant front case is again divided into compartments with drawers. The two drawers below are above a hidden compartment and over a deeply molded base on bun feet. The façade is overall veneered in calamander with line inlays. The interior holds a secret compartment which is cleverly hidden under several layers of removable pieces. This is a piece of excellent scale and utilizes the rare wood as decoration. Restored.
