This intriguing Italian 17th or 18th century oil on canvas hung in our front hallway awaiting a cleaning for far too long. After a recently completed light professional cleaning, at last the sky is a bit bluer and details are clearer.

Soldiers gather at sunrise against the background of campaign tents and the waking camp. The morning sun highlights the clouds and reflects on them in the foreground. There are minor touch-ins and it has been relined.
