Mahogany Veneer Hepplewhite Pier TableHepplewhite Pier Table, ca. 1785

Tall and stately, this type of demi-lune pier table is generally known only as a British form which might be a server in a dining room or as a side table in a grand hallway.  Dating from about 1785, this formal, city piece is veneered throughout in the finest mahogany veneers with handsome grain characteristics. The conforming overhang top has contrasting line inlays at the vertically banded rim. Each leg is topped with an inlaid patera or bowl form and joined at the aprons with light and dark stringing. Importantly, each tall slender leg terminates in a spade foot.
