French Louis XVI Console Desserte

French Louis XVI console desserte, signed by Jacques Birkle’ ( 1734-1803) and listed in Kjellberg’s book of French makers. It is marked with Birkle’s maker’s stamp twice at the top of the right front leg. Retaining its original blocked corner and molded edge top, the walnut veneer is highlighted with barber pole inlays and banding. Gilt ormolu hardware is in display with swags at the tops of each leg, pulls, escutcheons, bucket feet, and pierced fencing at the shelf. Ideal as a hall table or dining room side table.
