Napoleonic in all its features, this French Empire commode, ca. 1800-10, retains its original gray marble top. The four drawer case has extensive ormolu mounts. The top drawer has a central cartouche of a wreath with palm form arms flanked by classical columns surmounted by winged vase forms with floral adornments. Below, the drawers each have detailed bail pulls ornamented with flowers with squirrels holding the bails. The columns each are ringed with highly detailed ormolu mounts and terminate in a flattened bun feet. This a monument of style , proportion, and formality.
