Set of four Philadelphia chairs, circa 1785-1800, all in walnut. These ladder-back examples have a light feeling with shaped, pierced and molded crests with molded stiles. Slips seats are easily recovered and typical for American chairs. Below, tapered and molded legs show a transition to the Hepplewhite taste. Old solid repairs. They are in a pleasing old finish. H. 39″, w. 21.5″, d. 18″. $1440 the set of four.
