Fine unrestored American cherry highboy, circa 1740-90. Early furniture without restoration is often requested but seldom found. From a local estate, this collection was formed with an eye for rarity and originality. This early Queen Anne piece shows forth the original finish with scattered layers added over the ages. Especially desirable are the matching fan carvings at top and bottom. The fine original cast brasses are still in place. The seven drawer upper case with a substantial molded cornice rests on a separate lower case with carved mid-molding and is well supported on substantial cabriole legs with pad feet. Noteworthy is a top with a flat surface to display collections. Minor losses and normal wear appropriate to this age.
H. 78″, w. 40″, d. 20″. For those who require the old condition. $3500.
