A handsome English tole tray, circa 1840s now mounted on a fine later faux bamboo stand. This period comedy shows our fair maiden with two so handsome gentlemen vying for her attention. How could she choose between the talents?

This is period decoration, and you will find no other. Perhaps the design was copied from a 19th century print source. An inscription at the bottom edge has been largely lost, but the words “the soldier or the doctor” are clear. What a fun piece as a coffee table in a casual room! Professionally restored.
