Early Georgian walnut side chair, mid 18th century. Quite a shapely example in the Chippendale form, this carved model retains a wonderful bronze -like finish of the ages.
The serpentine crest has leafage carved and scrolled ears above a carved strapwork splat. The slip seat, just recovered in a proper floral damask, is held by a perfect balloon-shaped seat frame. The legs are bold with carved c-scrolls at shell carved knees over strong feet with leafage carving. Great as a desk chair.
