Dutch Marquetry Bombe’ Slant Front Bureaus

I have not had one of these delightful great Dutch marquetry bombe’ slant front bureaus for years. The sophisticated Dutch were leaders in many industries, as well as fashion, in the 17th and early 18th centuries. The sensuous, graceful bombe’ outline was very popular throughout Europe in many items from chests to pepper shakers. As if incredible form were not enough, the entirety of the surface is decorated in leafage, flowers, ribbons and birds, all in light exotic woods on a walnut case. The interior is a typical early 18th century layout with deep outboard drawers and a central well for access to the upper compartment. Mid 18th century.
