In the spirit of the Louis kings, on the lid a gentleman bows to a lady in the role of a shepherdess. At the sides are three other detailed views, showing ladies smoking pipes, and men playing board games (chess and backgammon). This is all in a lithographic style process with ink printed to buff paper. The pale blue painted ground has later turned green with the old application of shellac. Rims are touched with blue.
