In this large Italian painting , it appears that the peasants were working in the field harvesting until they decided that  a bit of libation, relaxation and bathing would be a healthy break from the task. This is a seamed 17th or 18th century canvas with age reflected in overall condition with typical imperfections. The arched top gilt molded framing appears to be of the period and original. These “vertical” pieces are in demand and not easy to acquire.
