In this antique Chinese Coromandel folding screen, painted and carved birds, fruit, antique vases and flowers abound within a carved leafage frame. Central themes include figures in pagoda roofed houses.
Previous to our ownership, the six panels had been carefully framed with a molded mahogany rim. Please note that two of the central panels have been brass hinged separately as a smaller screen.
The paprika red face surface has been cleaned and elements restored. The reverse panel faces are conserved to stabilize, but not fully restored. Buy this one for design, color, and drama. 19th century or earlier. Restored and imperfections.
Note: The famous fashion designer Coco Chanel (1883–1971) was an avid collector of Chinese folding screens, especially the Coromandel screens.
