16th-17th Oil on Canvas – SOLD

It’s unusual to find these early works retaining period frames. In this case a wonderful faux marble molding is held by the old hand wrought nails (these were forged individually).
In his 16th -17th century work, a shepherd in a waist coat sporting a shirt with striped sleeves watches his flock including sheep, a cow, and a goat.
Likely an Italian countryside view, details of mountains and villages are distant. Strong colors and contrasts highlight this bucolic view.
