This Louis XV parquetry commode with ormolu mounts, 18th century, dazzles the eye with a seemingly endless play of light and dark inlays of exotic woods. Diamond shaped blocks repeat in bois satin, mahogany, walnut, and cherry.
The case has a molded applied edge overhang top above a conforming case with serpentine sides and front. Each drawer is bounded by an applied thumbnail molded edge surrounding diagonal walnut veneers framing the parquetry central field. All is supported by bold, tall flaring legs drawn in a most graceful curve.
The cast and chased gilt bronze mounts are done as leafage with tendrils. Old repairs. Ready to display and enjoy, having great quality and a fine history. More history of this collection sent on request. H.33″, w. 44.5″, d. 21.5″. $4500.
