Italian Painted Cupboard

An Outstanding Italian Painted Cupboard.
Our most intriguing new piece comes to us with an Italian history. From the 17th  or early 18th century, this baroque cupboard has Gothic tones. As an important document and icon of a family’s life, this amazing piece pictures, in Renaissance style painting, their various interests presented in tiers. From the cornice downward, they are astrology, hunting, mythology, hunting with dogs, the seasons, the wedding scene, and birds.
All is framed within a fretwork cornice with an arched overhang (reminiscent of the 17th century English dressers) above a shelf and above a lower case with cupboard doors held by massive decorative strap hinges over two drawers, on floral painted legs bracketed  by scroll supports and a central drop. Restored.
