DSC_0876 DSC_0883

Above, from the estate of a well respected local collector, a large and exciting Ch’ien Lung screen, circa 1736-1795, is fully decorated in the coromandel technique. It is composed of twelve panels, each 19″ wide by 106″ tall. Overall length is 228″. It is signed by the artist and writer Len Yee.
At one side, a black lacquer border with antiques encompasses a gilt field boldly decorated with exotic birds on a landscape of tree peonies. To the other side, a scene of the wives and children of King Men Huang are at home in various activities. Fan vignettes above display landscape scenes, all within a border of dragons. To the side is a calligraphy panel. Minor losses and repairs, presently with separate panels detached for use as pairs. This is a large and impressive screen with bold coloring and design, giving a fantastic presence. $20,000.
