American birch Chippendale type chair, 18th century

We just had this beauty reupholstered in a fine quality blue-gray silk damask. This American side chair dates about 1775 and is of  New England origin. The primary wood is birch which has now mellowed to a soft amber patina. The crest and ladder back are serpentine with piercing above molded legs with stretchers.  Perfect as a desk chair or pull up chair.
